Drummoyne Oval
The City of Canada Bay Council commissioned Melocco & Moore Architects to design a new community facility at Drummoyne Oval. Strategically positioned within the park, the new building services the needs of Drummoyne Oval and the adjoining Taplin Park. This considered siting creates a formal entry to the grandstand seating and viewing platform while serving the needs of both the sporting ovals and their patrons.
The form of the building responds to the natural landscape surrounding the oval. A dynamic roof profile folds up to the north towards the formal street entry point. Situated on the foreshore of Five Dock Bay the building takes advantage of location with excellent cross ventilation and views from the first floor community room out across the bay.
The building includes a function centre with a full kitchen, a canteen for game days, offices, change rooms and public toilet amenities. The function room, which accommodates 140 patrons, is well patronised by locals for sports or community events.
