Malabar Junction Amenities

Melocco & Moore Architects recently completed a refurbishment of Malabar Junction Amenities for Randwick City Council. The existing amenities provided inadequate access to natural sunlight and ventilation with limited amenity and charisma. The existing compilation of varying roofs were replaced with a simple wedge-shaped roof form. This element opens up to the east for natural light and ventilation and slopes down the west, providing an ambitious cantilevered shelter for the attached bus stop. Decorative screens facilitated the light and ventilation and enliven the eastern elevation and its connection to the neighbouring retail high street. The new landscaping surrounding the building helps to imbed the structure into the busy intersection. The sculpted raised gardens provide easy cross-site connections, accessible access and spaces to rest.  The improved amenity block is enjoyed by the local community, local bus drivers, and the general public.
